Lexus, known of building reliable, safe and luxurious automobiles, introduced the IS350 at the 2005 New York Auto Show to replace the IS300. The IS line is the smaller four door sedan to the Lexus GS430 but packs the most performance for any Lexus vehicle yet. The high performance feature of the IS350 is attributed to the new 3.5 lieter VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) DOHC (Dual Over Head Cam) V6 engine that produces 306 hp and 277 Ib-ft torque, which allows the vehicle to reach the 60 mph (97 km/h) mark from a standstill in 5.3 seconds, making it the fastest vehicle in its class. Its to speed is electronically limited to 142 mph (229 km/h). Power transfer is available in either 6-speed manual transmission or 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential paddle shift mounted on the steering wheel. Standard wheel and tire package is all-season tires 225/45VR17 for the front and 245/45VR17 for the rear. Optional 18" wheel tire set up is comprised of summer tires 225/40YR 18 for the front and 225/40YR 18 for the rear.
The rear-wheel driven 5-passenger luxury sport sedan IS350 is larger and roomier than the IS300 it replaces and has some new features such as input port for the IPOD. optional Mark Levinson audio system, GPS navigational unit with rearview on-board camera for tight parking maneuvers. The new look of the IS350 shares some resembling design cues of the GS430, which Lexus coined the design theme as "L-Finesse, a philosophy with three fundamental elements: purity, elegance and luxurious. However, the IS350 may have proven that a fourth element of performance should be added to Lexus' philosophy.
